Playhouse on the Square and Hattiloo Theatre will present The Mountaintop by Memphis native Katori Hall as a co-production during the 2012-2013 Season. Hall’s play fictionalizes the events of the last night of DR. Martin Luther King’s Jr.’s life. The action is centered on a conversation that he has with a mysterious young woman who brings coffee and surprising news to his room at the Lorraine Motel.

The Mountaintop received its world premier in London where it won the Olivier Award for Best New Play in 2010. It opened on Broadway in September 2011 to critical acclaim and completed its run on January 22nd.

The Mountaintop will run at The Circuit Playhouse at 51 S. Cooper Street, through February 10, 2013. The production will be included in the subscription packages for both Playhouse on the Square and Hattiloo Theatre. Tickets will go on sale in late spring of 2012.
