Playhouse on the Square's 5th Annual Great Wine Performances Set for 8/21

The 5^th Annual Great Wine Performances is scheduled for Tuesday, August 21 from 6 - 8pm at Playhouse on the Square.  The fundraiser is part wine tasting and pArt Theatre trivia contest. Ten wine stations are set up throughout the theatre and characters from various shows perform a description of the wines being sampled. Guests must guess the shows the characters are from to win one of 50 available prizes. This year's theme is "Shows That Require an Explicit Theatre Advisory."

 "Since we're known to do shows that are considered edgy, we figured why not go all out this year with the wildest and craziest characters in theatre," said Courtney Oliver, Director of Special Events. "When we started Great Wine Performances it was the only wine tasting of its kind in Memphis and we grew a following because it was unique," she continued. Last year was the first time that Playhouse attached a theme to the event with each wine station representing a Tony Award-winning show within the last decade. "It added an extra layer of fun to the event. The feedback from the partygoers was that the bawdiest characters were the most fun, which gave us our theme for this year," she explained. Oliver says guests can expect a little adult language and some sight gags but there definitely will not be any nudity or violence. "It's still a wine tasting, there's nothing that anyone should be wary of. It's a great time with some great wine."

Tickets for the fundraiser are $50 in advance or $65 at the door. Guests have the opportunity to win prizes worth more than the cost of admission. "You might walk away with a $100 gift certificate to a restaurant if you play the game well," says Oliver. Guests can also purchase clues for a nominal fee if they get stuck.
