ShoWagon, the Department of Outreach and Education at Theatre Memphis, announces the camps available for this summer.

The Sneetches, a Dr. Suess inspired performance camp for grades K-5 will kick off the summer camp schedule July 9 -13, 2012. In this week long workshop children will work with teaching artists to explore singing, dancing and an on stage experience. Cost for this camp is $175 per child.

July 16 -20, 2012, will be the dates for the grade levels 6 – 8. Tall Tales will feature the concept of Heroes and Outlaws incorporated into performance skills including voice and movement. Teaching artists will collaborate with the students to create an stage environment and to support creative choices. Cost for this camp is $175 per child.

Grades 9 -12 will be involved in Something Wicked for a two week theatre experience July 16 -27. This session will teach circus skills and include movement instruction through ensemble work led by teaching artists. Cost for this camp is $350 per child.

Theatre Memphis members’ campers receive $10 off the cost of the session. Sibling discounts are available if attending the same camp. Discounts cannot be combined, however.

The camps will give participating children the chance to explore how a stage production is pulled together by creating one! They will get a chance to rehearse and perform in a theatrical production while learning about acting, stage make-up, set, lighting and costume design. Theatre artists will guide the children as they actually create a show.

All campers should bring a sack lunch but will be provided a snack. All sessions will begin at 9am and end at 3pm. For a nominal fee, early drop off and late pick can be arranged.

To register for any of the camps, call Aliza Moran or Leslie Barker at 901.682.5261. Information is also available at www.theatrememphis/education.
