Theatre Memphis Closes Season with NO, NO, NANETTE, Now thru 7/1

Theatre-Memphis-to-Close-Season-with-NO-NO-NANETTE-68-71-20010101

After record breaking audiences for previous shows in the season, the final show of the 2011-12 season at Theatre Memphis will be No, No, Nanette from tonight, June 8 to July 1, 2012. No, No, Nanette stars Bennett Wood, Julie Jacobson Hight, Jude Knight, Robert Hanford, Emily Pettet and Chris Hawk with other principal roles cast with Donna Lappin, Annie Strong, Emily Chateau and Miriam Rodriguez.

Acclaimed as “The Happiest Show in Town,” this high energy musical comedy from the 1920’s takes you back to a simpler time as three couples find themselves thrown together in an Atlantic City cottage navigating scandal and rumors. Nanette, a fun-loving Manhattan heiress, complicates the situation by deciding to explore her wild side but then chooses her true love after all. Featuring great songs like “Tea For Two” and “I Want To Be Happy,” a revival on Broadway in 1971 won high acclaim and many Tony Awards.

Director Mark Robinson believes, “No other classic musical is as exhilarating, joyful and hilarious as No, No, Nanette. This show is a dream project for any comedic stage director. After nearly 90 years, its ability to transport audiences to a time of glamour and romance presents escapism at its very best. And boy, do we need it now!” Robinson, a New York native, has previously directed Hello, Dolly! and A Little Night Music at Theatre Memphis. Executive Producer Debbie Litch agrees with him. She says, “You want to come to the theater to be entertained and this show has it all. Memorable songs, tap dancing … and wait until you see this set and the costumes. They are over the top.” She also thinks the show fits right in with what audiences want to see. “No, No, Nanette is in the spirit of the great successes we have had recently with Thoroughly Modern Millie and Crazy for You. We are just going all out to make it a knockout that everyone will enjoy.”

Performance dates for No, No, Nanette are June 8 – July 1, 2012. Shows are at 7:30 pm Tuesday, June 26, Wednesday, June 27 and Thursdays, 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays with matinees on Sunday at 2pm. Tickets are $28 for adults, $15 for students with a valid ID and $10 for children under 12. Call 901.682.8323 to purchase tickets or go online to www.theatrememphis.org.
